Project - Sticker Survey of Shoreditch High Street
Outcome - 26 lamp posts on Shoreditch High Street were surveyed. Stickers
were classified by genre, age, height and artist/company. A
photographic record was taken of each individual sticker. 520 sticker
observations were recorded. Following research into mapping and data
presentation a map was designed to display the data from this survey.
This map has been printed as an A2 poster. It depicts geographical
location, significant roads, individual lamp posts, how many stickers
were on these lamp posts, what the stickers were, as well as some numerical statistical data.
Commentary - Data from the survey was inputted into a spreadsheet and analysed.
Textual research was conducted into sticker culture, stickers,
graffiti and fly posting problems and guerilla marketing. This was
combined with a telephone interview with Hackney Council and email
interviews to produce a 45 page A4 report. This report covered thehistory of stickers, an investigation into the visual language of
stickers, the problems stickers cause, the removal of stickers and street furniture cleansing, a survey methodology, a statistical and
analytical report on the final map, a conclusion and a taxonomy by
genre of the stickers surveyed.
