Project - Politics In Design
Outcome - Michael Jackson print pyjamas and labels
Commentary -
I followed the Michael Jackson court case for this project.
On the final day of my coverage Michael Jackson appeared late to court
wearing hospital pyjama trousers. To commemorate this day and comment
on his use of showmanship to distract press attention from the
testimony of his prosecutions main witness, I chose to make a pair of pyjamas. The pyjama pattern features stencilled iconic images of Michael Jackson from his most famous periods, which was a contrast to
his image of frailty and insecurity throughout the trial. The pyjamas
are intentionally non-judgemental regarding an opinion on Michael
Jacksons guilt in the trial. The text on the label is from a newspaper
story on the day. This also represents no positive or negative viewpoint on the story.
